Debit vs. Credit
Valley Oak offers debit account access to our Basic, Privilege, and Premium Plus checking accounts.
Debit or Credit?
You can use your Valley Oak Credit Union Check Card for purchases at millions of locations worldwide. The amount will be deducted conveniently from your checking account. When you present your Check Card (also known as your Debit card) for payment the cashier will ask you to choose "debit or credit" before the transaction can be completed. If you choose debit your purchase will require a PIN number, the transaction will be considered an ATM withdrawal and the transaction will immediately be deducted from your account balance, you may also be assessed a surcharge from the merchant. If you choose credit your purchase will be completed through the credit card network, which may take up to 3 or 4 days to be deducted from your account. You will be asked to sign a receipt just as when using a traditional credit card. Click here for non-VISA debit-transactions details.
Don't forget to notify Valley Oak if you will be traveling and using your card(s) out of your normal spending area. This way we can ensure you are not inconvenienced by your card(s) not working.
